Project description

A mutual Partner School Project took place during a partnership between Waldorf Junior High School from Bielsko-Biała and Freie Waldorfschule from Dresden.
The artistic profile of the schools was the reason to create a project that involves both drama and movie. The aim of the two undertakings that were carried out under professional’s tutelage was to create a film and a pantomime performance. The movie is a reflection of the past and historical connections between Silesia and Saxony and the pantomime pictures present times. Pupils had an additional chance to broaden their language abilities of both English and German. German pupils experienced also Polish language.
During the two years of the project pupils attended cyclic art classes (movie and drama) as well as language, history and IT classes. But the most intense time, while there was a lot of hard work involved, took place when the students met in Dresden and Bielsko-Biała. Students were put into mixed – international drama and movie groups and were responsible for collecting, preparing material and processing it. The groups also had to polish up drama scenes and work on historical films. They absorbed and immersed themselves in knowledge concerning both regions, improving practical language skills at the same time. But it was not hard work all the time. A time for pleasure had to be found. Again, put in mixed – international groups, students played different types of inside and outdoor games, attended wood and culinary workshops – familiarizing with the most traditional and tasty meals of both regions. Joined trips created a possibility to show the guests historical places and the natural beauty of the host’s region. A lot of pupils managed to breake the language barrier and make new friends.
The first presentation of pupil’s achievements took place on the 12th of June 2010 in the school of Dresden, ending the visit of Polish group in Germany. The final result of the whole pupils’ work was presented on stage of Banialuka Theatre in Bielsko-Biała on the 21st of May 2011. Pupils from Bielsko-Biała Waldorf school and pupils from Dresden Waldorf school together performed in their theatre performance titled: “The School of life” and showed history films concerning the history of both cities under a title: “What we used to have and what is not there anymore.”

European Added Value

We expect advantages for all participants from the cooperation with other European schools. An important experience for the life of the pupils and also for the teachers will be in the contact with our partners.
By working in the project the view to the foreign countries will be different than to travel as a tourist. During meeting the people in their daily life you can get to know and understand each other much better.
We get to know the people, the culture and the traditions of our partners. We’ll see the similarities and the differences. One result will be a new point of view to the foreign people, traditions and culture as well as to the own.
By working together and comparing the pupils will lost anxious and prejudices and will get a better self confidence.
That is important for European life with foreign cultures. By living with each other and understanding it’s a good way to come to freedom.
We want to help to encourage the pupils to have a look over the European borders. Maybe in the future some of them will like to study or work in another country .
The cooperation between European schools is a step to European consciousness.

Impact
