Developing accredited training programmes for delivering arts in prisons

European research reveals the invaluable role that the arts can play in the rehabilitation process. Despite this, outside of Britain, there are few accredited training programmes to prepare artists for work inside prisons or to formally accredit staff already using the arts inside prisons.

For the first time, experts in delivering arts within prisons and education experts will collaborate together to develop a training programme for artists, adaptable in an extended European context, and to create a framework in order to accredit practitioners already working with the arts inside prisons. The training aims to empower participants in their creativity, while preparing them for work in challenging settings, using a mixed media approach and up-todate digital technologies to create versatile online facilities.

This newly updated course for artists will be the first accredited course of its kind, and will result in a qualification recognised at an international level.
